Default Question about a Scam

I'm sorry if this has already been talked about in a previous thread, but my friend just got scammed and he doesn't know what to do. We were playing in the Tomb of Primeval Kings, and an offer to join a guild poped up. It was for a guild he called the "Sissy Boys". When I looked on the guild ladder, I saw that they were in the top 5, so I told my friend to get more info about this. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of this person, but when my friend asked, he ws asked to perform at a "tryout" outside TOA. It was to kill one small group of enemies by himself. He did it easily, and was later told he could join by donating 30k, or a sigil. He wasn't sure about this, but the chance of joining one of the best guilds proved to be too good an offer to pass up. He paid 30k to the guy and was sent an invite into the guild. All seemed good except for one problem: no one was in the guild. Aparently, the guild's real name was "Sissy Boy", with similar capes to the real guild. When my friend realized this, he was promptly kicked and blocked by the guy. This is a huge scam by one person using the reputation of this guild to make huge sums of money. Is there anything else my friend can do besides reporting him?

Thats F'ed up, but you shouldn't be handing money out like that. Why would you want to join a guild that lets people in by being paid?

There is nothing you can do besides getting in touch with ArenaNet. Thanks for giving the community the heads up but there is nothing we can do. We discourage public blacklisting here.

This just proves that if it is too good to be true, it probably is.

It isn't too good to be true. A while ago, a sB (Note the capitalization in the guild tag) member was auctioning off guild membership to Sissy Boys for ACTUAL US DOLLARS. It was up to like 9.99 before they pulled it off the market.

No offense, but since you guys like to PvP that much you really should not care so much about gold anyway.

Let's put it this way, if I PvP, I don't CARE about gold. Likewise for me, as a PvEer I don't give 2 hoots about faction points.

I think your friend just needed to think a bit more, firstly he could have noticed the slightly altered names, but fair enough as its a small thing to notice, but he should have thought, why does one of the tops five guilds need 30k, let allone a sigil for a hall they MUST have already.

they later claimed it was a joke I believe...
As for the OP:
well, this is just sad. I agree with the 'if it looks to good, it probably is a scam' statement here by one of the earlier posters, but this is just grieving.
It is a bit silly that you didn't verify the guildname completely, but this scam is set up better then most scams.

peace,
Makkert

Yeh a top five guild should not require money let alone 30k.

Sad to hear this, but if your friend knew about [sB] he'd know they prolly have sigils lying around all over their guild hall. And why would they need more? Also why would a PvP guild test a player on a PvE mob?

Be alert and vigilant please.
